Feline Health: Multi-Cat

A pet owner's primary source of information concerning their pet's health and well being should be their veterinarian. The information provided here is not a substitute for veterinary care. In all matters pertaining to the care and treatment of a pet a veterinarian must always be consulted first.

The more cats you own or the more of any animal for that matter, the greater your chances are for disease or conditions that are detrimental to your cats health and well being.

Young kittens or cats do not have fully developed immune systems. It is very important that before you bring home a new kitten that you make sure the felines of your household are indeed healthy. While a new kitten can be infected at the cattery it is also possible for a new kitten to be infected at its new home either from the environment and/or from the resident feline(s) who may be asymptomatic carriers of a disease.

Besides diseases, incompatibilities between felines may arise that can bring on stress related conditions . The addition of just one cat can affect the personality of all the felines in the household.
